When We Went Live.. #Dunkin vs #Starbucks

Hey everyone!

Last night Christina Simon and I went on a little adventure. We went live on Twitter to interview our fellow classmates on what coffee brand they liked, why and more.

The first person that we interviewed was Emily Osborn. Emily is a junior biology major and we talked to her while she was leaving Bounce and Trounce. Emily was interviewed by Christina. Christina first asked, “Do you like Starbucks or Dunkin?”, Emily answered with,” I like dunkin”. Christina then went on to ask why, Emily said, “the prices are more reasonable and Starbucks is way to expensive”, she also added, she uses the mobile app which makes her Dunkin experience faster and easier. Emily also talked about being able to gain points from the app which is just another reason she likes it so much. Emily also told Christina that she goes to Dunkin at least once a day if not more, not only does she like the taste, but as a biology major the caffeine in Dunkin’s coffee helps her start her day and stay awake during long study sessions. Overall, what we learning from Emily is that Dunkin tastes better, had better prices and is easily attainable with the Dunkin app!

I then found another student, Chrissy Sun. Chrissy is a senior graphic design major. She was also at Bounce and Trounce when I asked her to interview. My first question, like Christina was, “Do you like Starbucks or Dunkin”. Chrissy said that she preferred Dunkin over Starbucks. When asked why she said, “because it’s cheaper then Starbucks and I just prefer the taste”. I then asked if she noticed a difference in caffeine between the two and if that also effects her opinion, in which she replied that Dunkin’s caffeine keeps her up and focused more when she is doing her work (because midterms are slowly approaching :/ ) When asked if she used the mobile apps, Chrissy surprisingly didn’t know that either had apps. She then said now that she knows about the apps she is going to check them out and maybe even download them. What we got from Chrissy’s interview is that again Dunkin’s prices are cheaper, the taste and caffeine is better and although she didn’t know about the apps she is interested to learn more.

Our last interview we were to interview two students at one time. Christina was able to get Brian and Wonderful to participate in our Live video. When asked which they liked more, Starbucks or Dunkin, both Brian and Wonderful said Dunkin. When asked why they both had their own reasons. Wonderful said that he liked their green tea, he also said that the prices at Dunkin were better overall. Brian said he liked Dunkin because it is cheaper but says the taste in their teas (which he prefers) taste the same. Christina asked them both if they used the Dunkin app, while both knew about the app neither of them had ever used it but think it is a good idea and it also depends on what it can do for them. Again, from both Brian and Wonderful we saw that they both liked Dunkin over Starbucks because of mostly price.

What we were able to gauge about public opinion is that Dunkin is the more popular choice because of price, taste, caffeine levels and convenience.

This was a really fun experience because we were able to go out in our SHU community and talk to our fellow students about something that I think all of us have an opinion about. It was also fun to see what our classmates chose to ask others about too.

Stay fun, stay sassy and I’ll see you all next week!
